IUP will continue its weekly picnics in the Oak Grove on June 8, 2011.
Picnics will be held each Wednesday through August 5 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., weather permitting.
“We had an excellent turnout for the first picnic on June 1,” John Veilleux, picnics co-chairman and associate vice president for Communications and Community Relations, said. “Picnic guests were very receptive to the buffet, and we had many excellent prizes to distribute, thanks to our special guests St. Thomas More University Parish, the IUP Co-op, and the University Relations Division at IUP.”
All picnics are open to the community. Cancellations because of inclement weather will be announced on local radio stations and posted on the IUP website.
Picnickers may bring a lunch or purchase one from the Aramark food stations.
Aramark offers one-price buffet lines. One will feature traditional picnic items, such as hamburgers, hot dogs, hot pasta, corn on the cob, baked beans, salad, fruit salad, whole fruit, and cookies and other desserts. The other is a “chef's choice” specialty buffet line.
The cost is $5.50 for either buffet, which includes one plate and a beverage.
Representatives from the university's Health Service will offer free blood-pressure screenings during the picnics throughout the season.
Music for the June 8 picnic will be classic rock, and the special guest will be the Student Affairs Division.
