The Office of Service Learning sponsored several opportunities for members of the IUP community to give to disadvantaged children and families in the Indiana area.
The office coordinated donations for the Treasures for Children program, sponsored by the Salvation Army, and the Toys for Tots program, coordinated by the U.S. Marine Corps.
IUP community members “adopted” 45 children through the Treasures for Children program. The donations for these individuals exceeded 180 gifts. More than 75 toys were collected for the Toys for Tots program, along with monetary donations exceeding $100.
Lisa Shirley, a junior, organized the Treasures for Children program at IUP, and Nicole Moomaw, a sophomore, Toys for Tots. Both work in the Office of Service Learning. Aiding them were several student volunteers, the IUP Ambassadors club, and Phi Beta Lambda, the IUP business honor fraternity.
The Office of Service Learning promotes excellence in professional and personal character development through experiential learning opportunities that bridge the curriculum with community service.
