Several events, including a lecture by a Holocaust survivor, are planned on April 3 and 4, 2017, at Indiana University of Pennsylvania as a Holocaust remembrance. All events are free and open to the community.
Holocaust survivor Judah Samet will speak on April 3 at 6:00 p.m. in the Hadley Union Building Ohio Room. As a child, Samet was imprisoned for 10 months with his family in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. His presentation is part of IUP's Six O'Clock Series.
Following his presentation, there will be a reception with Samet and other Holocaust survivors in the HUB Monongahela Room. Survivors to be present for the reception include Moshe Baran (a former Six O'Clock speaker), Shulamit Bastacky, Solange Lebovitz, and Harry and Patty Schneider.
Events conclude April 4 at 7:00 p.m. with a screening of the film Europa, Europa in the Humanities and Social Sciences Building, room B10. The film is based on Solomon Perel's childhood during the reign of the Nazis. Discussion with Paul Arpaia, Department of History, and Thomas Slater, Department of English, will follow the film screening. This event is cosponsored by the IUP History Club.
The Holocaust Remembrance Events Planning Committee will be accepting donations for the Refugee Resettlement Program as a part of the Holocaust remembrance events. Baby diapers and wipes may be placed in the donation boxes in the lobby of Uhler Hall until April 14.
