Caleb King, an applied mathematics and economics double major at Indiana University of Pennsylvania in the Cook Honors College, has been appointed by Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf to serve as the student trustee on the IUP Council of Trustees.
King, of East Brady, is the son of Steve King and Petula King. He is a 2015 graduate of Karns City High School.
He was sworn in to serve as a member of the Council of Trustees on May 29. He will serve in the role of student trustee until his graduation.
“IUP's student trustees have been strong leaders and incredible assets to this university and to the Council of Trustees,” IUP President Michael Driscoll said. “Caleb continues this tradition—he is an involved member and leader in the university community. Our student trustees offer a very important perspective to the Council, and we value having them as part of this governing board.”
Members of the Council of Trustees are volunteers appointed by the governor to be responsible for financial oversight of the university and for ensuring compliance of university policy with state law. The Council of Trustees meets quarterly and other times as needed.
“It is an honor to be selected as the next student trustee, and I look forward to serving the university,” King said. “Holding this position on campus is an amazing opportunity, and I'm excited to represent the student voice on the council.”
King is a chief justice for the Student Government Association, is a member of the Fredrick Douglass Debate Society, is a tour guide for the Cook Honors College, and participated in the Alternative Spring Break service project in Tennessee, building hiking trails along the Cumberland Trail. He is the recipient of the Arthur G. Morrell Memorial Scholarship from the Mathematics Department.
