All members of the IUP community are asked to “spread the word” and actively encourage promising students to participate in the annual Research Experiences for Summer Scholars Program.
While participation in the program is free, there is financial support for students. In order to accommodate as many qualified students as possible, the deadline for those seeking RESS funding to apply has been extended to March 29.
Students not seeking funding can apply up to April 30.
RESS, in its sixth year, is an opportunity for students to participate in cutting-edge, inquiry-based research and scholarship at IUP during the summer. This 10-week program offers students from all majors a one-of-a-kind, hands-on experience and promises some of the best networking opportunities and professional development events IUP has to offer. Students have access to incredible resources, and have produced amazing original scholarship—right here on our campus.
The RESS is modeled after the National Science Foundation's Research Experience for Undergraduates programs. Nationally, REU programs are seen as one of the most valuable summer experiences students can participate in; yet, the acceptance rate for most REU programs is only around 3 percent. Through the RESS program, IUP can offer all IUP students the chance to participate in a cutting-edge experience that links knowledge and skills learned in coursework to real-work research and societal problems.
The program is open to all IUP majors. All students who plan to continue at IUP in the fall 2019 semester and have GPAs above 2.0 are welcome to apply.
Students interested in applying can submit an application via IUP's InfoReady platform.
The program follows IUP's summer schedule. The traditional 10-week program spans Summer I and II, but students can customize the program by choosing any combination of the sessions.
