Indiana University of Pennsylvania's Office of International Education will present several events celebrating International Education Week at IUP October 21 through October 25, including IUP hosting a naturalization ceremony on October 25.

International Education Week is a joint initiative between the United States Department of State and the United States Department of Education to promote cross-cultural awareness, prepare students for a global environment, and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the United States.

Close to 50 people are expected to be part of the naturalization ceremony, which will take place at 11:00 a.m. on October 25 in Toretti Auditorium at the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex.

Sudipta Majumdar, associate professor of chemistry at IUP, will be one of the persons becoming an American citizen at the ceremony. He is originally from India, coming to the United States in 2002 as a student. He began work at IUP in 2014.

This fall, IUP welcomed 582 international students from 57 countries.

Funding for events for the week is provided by the Office of International Education and the IUP Student Co-Operative Association. All events are free and open to the community, unless otherwise noted.
