Saturday’s performance of An Evening of Dance and Percussion: Legacy marks the end of an era. It is the final collaboration in the nearly 20-year partnership of the IUP Dance Theater Company, directed by Holly Boda-Sutton, and the IUP Percussion Ensemble, directed by Michael Kingan.
The concert will include nine favorites dating back to 2009, reconstructed by Dance Theater alumni and featuring musical arrangements by percussion alumni. Past and present company members as well as community dancers will perform in the production.
“The nine pieces selected were not only our favorites but were the most conducive to fitting COVID protocols on stage,” said Boda-Sutton, who will retire in May, 27 years after she started the Dance Theater Company. She began the dance-percussion collaboration with Gary Olmstead, who retired from the Music Department in 2003, and has been working with Kingan since 2005.
An Evening of Dance and Percussion: Legacy will take place Saturday at 7:00 p.m. in Fisher Auditorium. Those attending in person must be IUP students, faculty members, or staff members. The event will also be streamed live. Get ticket or streaming information.
In celebration of the partnership, the Dance Theater Company has shared the following photographs from its archives.
