Indiana University of Pennsylvania is ranked in the top 10 universities in Pennsylvania and in the top 20 universities in the nation as a “best online university” by EDsmart.
The rankings evaluated universities on the basis of affordability—net price and financial aid; student satisfaction and retention rates; and student outcomes, including four-year graduation rates.
All data for the rankings was gathered from the independent National Center for Education Statistics website.
In the ranking, editors praised IUP for its “breadth of course offerings, which range from business to environmental studies to science and technology to social sciences and research,” and IUP's mission statement: “Indiana University of Pennsylvania engages students as learners and leaders in an intellectually challenging, culturally enriched, and contemporarily diverse environment.”
Editors also recognized IUP for its “16 consecutive years been rated as one of the country's best colleges by the Princeton Review,” and IUP's criminology program ranking by U.S. News & World Report as a national top 10 online program.
IUP has also been included in Washington Monthly magazine's national rankings of schools based on their contributions to society.
EduRef.net, a nationally recognized provider of college planning resources, named IUP to its “10 Most Affordable Accredited Online Colleges” ranking for 2020; the Bachelor of Science degree in nutrition has been ranked in the top 16 programs in the nation as a “Best Bachelor's Degree” by Study.com, and the graduate program in literacy has been ranked seventh in the nation by Best Value Schools.

In addition, students can complete more than 65 minors and scores of specialized tracks and certificate programs, including certificates in athletic coaching, gerontology, photography and digital imaging, popular music, and public history.
