Noreen Herlihy
Head Coach, Women’s Soccer
What's a book that means a lot to you?
This book is supposedly based on a true story. A forgotten war hero. It’s a tale of one man’s journey during World War II, and the book places the main character (17-year-old Pino Lella) in Milan, Italy. Italy was under the rule of Mussolini and losing control to Hitler, and when Pino’s house was bombed by Allied forces, he joined the underground railroads to help Jews cross over the Alps. To protect him, his parents get him to enlist as a German soldier, but he then gets injured and becomes a personal driver for Hitler’s right-hand man. He uses this opportunity to spy for the Allies. For me, it was riveting as I turned each page. It highlights the tragedy of war and the cost of human life, but I felt its story was one of human triumph, resilience, and love.
Noreen Herlihy was named the fifth head coach of the women’s soccer program on June 20, 2022. She has been a head coach for 28 seasons, spanning three programs. Her teams have won 335 matches in that time.
