Jackson White

Jackson White, a political science and economics honors double major in the Cook Honors College at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, was approved to serve as a student trustee on the IUP Council of Trustees by the Pennsylvania State System Board of Governors at its meeting on February 6.

His term will begin when the current student trustee, Shagufta Haque, graduates in May. White will serve in the role of student trustee until his graduation.

The resolution of his nomination for the position was unanimously approved by the IUP Council of Trustees at its December 2024 meeting.

“The student member of the Council of Trustees contributes valuable perspectives and ideas for the Council’s discussions,” IUP Council of Trustees Chairman Sam Smith said. “Jackson’s experiences and his commitment to IUP and to representing students will serve us well as we  work together on behalf of the university,” Chairman Smith said.

Members of the Council of Trustees are volunteers responsible for financial oversight of the university and for ensuring compliance of university policy with state law. The Council of Trustees meets quarterly, and other times as needed.

“I am very impressed with Jackson’s approach and authentic passion for advancing the university and representing students as a member of the Council of Trustees,” IUP President Michael Driscoll said. “He has a proven track record of strong and positive involvement in important university initiatives and groups, and I look forward to working with him as a member of the Council.”

White, of Uniontown, is a dean’s list student. He is the recipient of the IUP President’s Scholarship, the Cook Honors College Scholarship, the Western Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association Scholarship, and the UAEA Scholarship. Son of Attorney Daniel White and Sammi White of Uniontown, he is a 2023 graduate of Uniontown Area High School.

He is the president of IUP’s Pre-Law Society and is a founding member of the Student Giving Committee, currently serving as the event manager and newsletter editor. He is vice president of the IUP Ambassadors student-alumni association,

He has served as a volunteer for the IUP Crimson Huddle, the university’s 9/11 event, and the Career and Professional Development Center’s career fair. He was a Welcome Week leader, providing support to new students during their transition to university life.

“It’s an honor to be selected for this important role,” White said. “I am committed to working for the university’s success and growth, including fostering a supportive academic environment.

“As a student trustee, I hope to help to enhance student engagement and contribute to meaningful initiatives that address the needs of our diverse student body. I am committed to ensuring that every voice is heard and valued, and I believe my unique perspective will positively impact the Council of Trustees,” he said.

In addition to his involvement in IUP organizations, White was a legal intern at Tremba, Kinney, Greiner & Kerr LLC in summer 2024 and worked as a legal assistant at Zebley Mehalov & White PC from April 2022 to August 2023.
