Brent McCusker, professor of geography at West Virginia University, will give a lecture titled "The Challenge of Climate Change in a Multi-shock World: Evidence from Niger, Uganda, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Malawi." The presentation will take place on Zoom, Tuesday, March 9, 5:00-6:15 p.m.
This talk will place the challenge of climate change in the current context of repeated, multi-variate shocks facing households across five sub-Saharan African countries. A household livelihoods approach to vulnerability and resilience will be presented and will demonstrate the usefulness of a geographic approach to understanding both shocks and the factors contributing to them. The talk will conclude with evidence of uptake of such research by decision- and policy- makers.
McCusker is a professor of geography and chair of the WVU Department of Geology and Geography. His research is focused on the themes of environment and development, with an interest in the interaction between academia and policy makers, specifically the international development donor community.
