On Wednesday, March 27, 2024, the minister counselor of the Embassy of Mali, Noël Diarra, will give a presentation titled “The Alliance of Sahel States at the Crossroads of Global Security Challenges.” The talk will take place at 7:00 p.m. in Leonard Hall, Room B-11. The event is free and open to the public. Attendance vouchers will be provided.
Diarra will discuss the goals and challenges of this mutual defense pact that his nation recently formed with Niger and Burkina Faso. All three countries have been affected by conflicts involving insurgent groups.
Diarra’s career in international law and politics spans nearly two decades. He has served in various positions in Mali’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. From 2014 to 2020, he was the counselor in charge of political affairs for the Permanent Mission of Mali to the United Nations. In 2022, he began his current role as the minister counselor, deputy chief of the Mission of Mali’s embassy to the United States.
