The Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education has been selected to receive The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars' 2009 University System of the Year Award.

The award recognizes the partnership among the Washington Center, the commonwealth, and PASSHE universities. PASSHE sends more interns to the Washington Center than any other system in the United States.

PASSHE will receive the award during the Washington Center's annual Academic Affairs Awards luncheon October 19 at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.

The award will also be acknowledged during a gala—for which PASSHE is a Silver Sponsor—that evening at the National Building Museum. Sponsorship was achieved through a $5,000 gift from the PASSHE Foundation, Inc., to the Washington Center. Included with the sponsorship are three $1,000 scholarships to the Washington Center's internship program. These scholarships will be awarded via lottery to three PASSHE universities whose president attends the gala.

The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars is an independent, nonprofit organization serving hundreds of colleges and universities in the United States and other countries by providing opportunities for students to work and learn in Washington, D.C., for academic credit.
