On January 4, 2011, I announced that Jimmy Myers, director of the Office of Social Equity and Civic Engagement, would be leaving IUP at the end of February to accept a position at Gulf Coast University in Florida. I said at that time that I would review the structure and responsibilities of that office before deciding how to proceed.
I have now completed that review. Given the importance of inclusion and social equity, compliance with law and regulation, and investigation of complaints by faculty, staff, and students, I will conduct an internal search for an interim assistant to the president for Inclusion and Social Equity. Matters related to civic engagement will no longer be part of this position, since they are being handled elsewhere in the university. The addition of the term “inclusion” reflects the intention to mainstream all members of the university into the fabric of its operation.
In the event that the internal search cannot be successfully concluded by March 1, matters formerly handled by Mr. Myers can be directed to my office for processing.
University employees will be informed of the internal position announcement in IUP Daily. The announcement will be posted on the Human Resources website at Employment at IUP.
