Members of the IUP community: Welcome to the beginning of a new academic year.

First, I want to thank you all for a smooth move-in. This event touches just about everyone on campus, and I sincerely appreciate everyone's hard work and cooperation.

I also want to thank our new students and their families for their patience and understanding during a very exciting—and emotional—time.

While new students enjoy the events planned for Welcome Weekend and join returning students preparing for the new semester, I want to remind you that our priority is your health, safety, and success.

I ask that you stay alert and fully aware of your surroundings at all times, follow designated paths and sidewalks, and always lock your doors. If you have safety concerns, please do not hesitate to call 9-1-1 or the University Police at (724) 357-2141. The Blue Light phones located throughout campus automatically connect to University Police, and University Police also offer an escort service.

Please make sure to register for IUP's text Emergency Alerts by logging on to URSA. After registering, you will be informed immediately if there is a university emergency.

Your university e-mail and the Beak, IUP's daily e-mail newsletter for students, offers a great deal of information about campus events and how to get involved. Employees, please regularly read IUP Daily and the IUP website for updates and information.

I believe that IUP is a great place to study and to work. I hope that this year is a productive, successful and enjoyable one for all of you.

Go Hawks!
