Colleagues,
As many of you are aware, we lost a member of our IUP family this weekend.
Caleb Zweig, 20, a junior English major from Rockville, Maryland, passed away Saturday, February 4.
Funeral services will be held at Congregation Har Shalom, 11510 Falls Road, Potomac, Maryland, on Wednesday, February 8, at 11:00 a.m.
Interment will follow at the Garden of Remembrance Memorial Park, 1431 Comus Road, Clarksburg, Maryland, immediately following the funeral. Condolences and memories can be posted online through Sagel Bloomfield Danzansky Goldberg Funeral Care, Inc.
While I did not have the opportunity to get to know Caleb, I have learned that he was a vibrant, charming, and funny young man who was well liked and who cared deeply for his family and friends.
The death of someone you knew can evoke strong feelings. The best way to cope is to talk to your closest friends, family members, or trusted teachers. There are people among us who have experienced similar events, and they are often more than willing to help others going through difficult circumstances.
Faculty, staff, and and students who would like to speak with a counselor should call 724-357-2621 or visit the Counseling Center in the Center for Health and Well-Being, Suites on Maple East. Walk-in hours at the Counseling Center are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Counselors will be available for crisis appointments and consultation and to offer guidance and support during difficult times.
Members of the IUP Interfaith Council also are available. Please call 724-357-4040 to have a campus minister provide support.
The university has a bereavement-related class absence policy designed to support students during times of loss.
As you join me in keeping Caleb's family and friends in your thoughts and prayers, please also take care of yourselves and seek appropriate support. We are here for you.
Sincerely,
Michael A. Driscoll
President
