Colleagues,

I am sorry to share news of the recent passing of Joseph Gula, the assistant director of Information Systems Technology at the Student Cooperative Association.

Joseph was a 2022 IUP computer science graduate who joined the Co-op staff in 2022. He passed away Monday, August 14, in Johnstown.

The death of someone you knew can evoke strong feelings. The best way to cope is to talk to your closest friends, family members, or trusted teachers.

There are people among us who have experienced similar events, and they are often more than willing to help others going through difficult circumstances.

Students who would like to speak with a counselor can contact the IUP Center for Applied Psychology at 724-357-6228 or email laknight@iup.edu to make an appointment.

Members of IUP’s Council on Spiritual and Religious Life also are available; please email spiritual-life@iup.edu to contact a campus minister. Another option for support is the Armstrong-Indiana 24-hour crisis line at 877-333-2470.

The Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home, 710 Broad Street, Johnstown, is in charge of memorial arrangements, which include visitation with family and friends at the funeral home on Saturday, August 19, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., followed immediately by a funeral service at the same location.

Please join me in sending your thoughts and prayers for comfort and peace to Joseph’s family, as well as to everyone at IUP and in the community who knew him and who is affected by his passing.
