Ramadan, observed by Muslims worldwide, will begin this year on Sunday, March 10, and end on Tuesday, April 9. During Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn until dusk every day (this includes water), and celebrations often involve gatherings and prayers late into the night. Increased awareness and further insight into student life is appreciated.
The actual beginning date each year is contingent on the sighting of the moon of Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. Because Ramadan is scheduled on the lunar calendar, its dates move in relation to the solar calendar. While it has been in the summer for many years, it now will take place during the academic year until approximately 2040.
