Considering spending a semester abroad?

IUP has exchange agreements with more than 50 universities worldwide. Students from these universities can attend IUP on a one- or two-semester non-degree exchange. Please contact the international coordinator at your home university for more information and for an International Non-Degree Student Application.

If you have additional questions, please email intl-exchange@iup.edu.

Programs of Study

At IUP, you can choose from more than 140 majors, or programs of study. View a complete list of majors offered at IUP.

After You're AcceptedBridgeUSA

Look for an acceptance packet by email. The Office of International Education will create an immigration document (DS-2019) for a J-1 student visa and send the acceptance packet.

How to Apply as an International Exchange Student at IUP

Applications for exchange students are not available online. International Nondegree Student Applications are available from the international coordinator at your home university.

Housing

IUP requires all international students from partner universities to live on campus in one of IUP's suite-style residence halls. Each suite is equipped with individual bathrooms, high-speed wired and wireless internet connectivity, microwaves and refrigerators, individually controlled air-conditioning and heating, and many more features. Here is more information about our suite-style residence halls.

Arrival Date

All new international students and scholars should arrive on the arrival date and must attend International Student and Scholar Orientation. IUP sponsors a bus pick-up from the Pittsburgh International Airport for students who arrive before 8:00 p.m. on the specified arrival date. A seat must be reserved in advance for each student by submitting an "Airport pick-up form," which will be emailed to all students for them to return. Students not arriving on the official arrival date must arrange their own transportation to IUP.

If students cannot arrive at the airport before 7:00 p.m. and want to ride the IUP-sponsored bus, we strongly recommend they plan to arrive a day early and stay at a hotel near the airport. Detailed information on airport transportation, orientation, and more can be found on the Admitted International Student pages. The hotels near the airport offer free shuttle service to and from the airport, so students can be transported back to the airport to catch the IUP-sponsored bus to Indiana on the official arrival date.

Please note that the Pittsburgh International Airport is approximately two hours from IUP, depending on traffic, weather, and road conditions.

International Student Orientation

International Student and Scholar Orientation is mandatory for all new international students and scholars. A $150 fee is charged for this program. Orientation is designed specifically for international students and scholars to help them succeed at IUP. They will learn about IUP academic and student services, US academic culture, and student visa and immigration regulations. In addition, students will meet with academic advisors and register for courses during orientation. For more information on International Student Orientation, please see the Your First Week page.
