Accounting Alumnus Kashak ’97 Speaks to SAA

On November 29, 2018, the public accounting firm SR Snodgrass visited the Student Accounting Association to share information about their firm and provide interviewing and networking tips to current accounting students. Snodgrass’s representatives included Lenore Seifer, director of personal development; Anthony Kuta, senior tax associate, and Justin Palaschak, external audit associate. Kuta and Palaschak both graduated from IUP with majors in accounting, with Kuta graduating in 2014 and Palaschak graduating in 2017. SR Snodgrass provides auditing, tax, and consulting services to 60 percent of banks in Pennsylvania.
On October 1, 2018, the Student Accounting Association hosted representatives from KPMG’s Pittsburgh office: Alicia Fulmer, senior associate, and Sarah Zbur, associate. Both Fulmer and Zbur majored in accounting at IUP with Fulmer graduating in 2015 and Zbur in 2016. KPMG is one of the Big 4 international public accounting firms with offices located in major cities throughout the world.
On September 18, 2018, the IUP Eberly College of Business and Information Technology’s Student Accounting Association, in collaboration with the IUP Career and Professional Development Center, held their annual SAA Career Day at the Rustic Lodge in Indiana, Pennsylvania. The event attracted a record number of organizations recruiting at the event—38 in total, which was one more than the previous record set in 2016.
On September 13, 2018, the Student Accounting Association hosted its first meeting of the semester with PNC Bank. The guest speaker was PNC campus recruiter Brenden Taylor, who has been the lead recruiter for two years
On Thursday, April 19, the IUP Student Accounting Association set an attendance record of 178 people at its annual recognition dinner held at the Rustic Lodge in Indiana, Pennsylvania.
The Student Accounting Association ended the year with a presentation on May 2 from Rina Irwin, the chief executive officer of Child Development Center, a nonprofit organization located in Oil City. This organization wants to help mothers get back to work and provide children with physical and mental health facilities at a young age. It provides child care and early education to children from six weeks of age to twelve years of age.
The Student Accounting Association hosted Susan Cosper ’92 on April 13, 2018. Cosper is an Eberly College of Business Hall of Distinction member and is currently the technical director at the Financial Accounting Standards Board in Connecticut. FASB is the primary body responsible for setting accounting principles and interpreting United States Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
Micaela DeBenedetto spoke to the Student Accounting Association on March 25, 2018. Micaela is a 2016 accounting alumna who works as a corporate accountant for NRG Energy in New Jersey. During the meeting, Micaela used her recent experience of getting a job to give insights to current students on how to best prepare for applying for jobs.
IUP’s Student Accounting Association held their third meeting of the semester on March 7, 2018, in the Eberly auditorium. The guest speaker was Jeremy Hartzell, the principal-in-charge of the Pittsburgh office of HBK CPAs & Consultants. HBK is an accounting firm with 14 locations across the Mid-Atlantic region and Florida and is a member of the BDO Alliance.
IUP’s Student Accounting Association held its second meeting of the semester on February 20 in the Eberly auditorium with 60 accounting majors in attendance. The guest speaker was 1985 IUP accounting alumna Sue Maloney, CPA.
