Artist Bio:
Lisa Harris earned a BA in Language and Literature from Bard College, Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, as well as a MFA in creative writing from Bard College's Avery Graduate School. She continued her graduate studies at Armstrong Atlantic University in Savannah, Georgia, where she earned a Master of Education as a reading specialist. While in Savannah she worked as a middle school and high school English language arts and reading teacher, taught in the Upward Bound and TRIO programs at Savannah State College and helped develop curriculum based on Great Book Practices.
Her administrator license from SUNY Cortland focused on Educational Leadership, Equity, and Excellence. Additional post-graduate work includes the Bread Loaf School of English, Middlebury, Vt.funded in part by a Rockefeller grantLincoln College, Oxford, and also the University of Vermont-Burlington, focused on leadership and critical thinking.
She has successfully work in nearly all areas of education, including classroom teacher, curriculum specialist, grant writer, student teacher supervisor and evaluator, and elementary principal. In addition, she has years of experience in presenting workshops and lectures on the local, regional, and national levels.
Despite her demanding educational career, she has also kept a focus on her dual artistic career. She has written a variety of published stories, sudden fiction pieces, collaborative installations with chapbooks, poetry, and a published essay. Her most recent publications are her critically acclaimed novels Geechee Girls(2013) and Allegheny Dream (2014), Ravenna Press.
A few of her residencies and awards include being a Lifelong Fellow of the Hambridge Center for Creative Arts and Sciences, Rabun Gap, Georgia, including two fiction residencies; two fiction residencies from the Constance Saltonstall Foundation, Ithaca, New York; five Provost Awards for creative writing from Ithaca College, Ithaca, New York; and two Bright Hill Fiction Awards for Low Country Stories and Boxes (1995, 1997) from Bright Hill Press, Treadwell, New York.
