October is designated by President Obama to be National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM). In a world where the Internet is woven into our daily lives, it is important to take steps to ensure our privacy and safety when online. During this month, universities, private sector, and government agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security, are promoting cyber security awareness through various events and initiatives.
IUP IT Support and the IUP Institute for Information Assurance are proud to join this national campaign. IT Support is offering several sections of “What YOU need to know about Cyber Security” and will be passing on cyber security tips throughout the month. The Institute for Information Assurance will host the eight Information Assurance Day conference on October 29 in the HUB. More information is to come.
This year’s NCSAM theme is “Our shared responsibility.” Consider attending one of the sessions this month. When you receive an e-mail from IT Support with a tip on cyber security, or an important warning about a phishing scheme and the like, take a minute to consider the message. It may save you from losing your privacy, contracting a virus, or other grief. Let’s all take steps to keep IUP and America safe.
