Lydia Rodríguez received her PhD in Romance Languages from the University of Cincinnati in 1999, with specializations in Latin American literature and US Latina literature. She currently serves as the editor of the Hispanic Journal
She joined the faculty at Indiana University of Pennsylvania in fall 2000. Among her most popular courses are Hispanic Short Story, Spanish American Prose, US Latina/Chicana Literature, and the Maya: Culture, Literature, and Numbers. Her published books include El mestizaje del canon: Helena Mara Viramontes (2005), Helena Mara Viramontes en sus propias palabras (2006), and the co-edited Mosaico literario sobre autoras latinoamericanas y caribeas (2008). She is working now on a fourth book tentatively titled Women Narratives Not Forgotten.
Rodríguez has published numerous scholarly articles as well as presented at many national and international conferences in Mexico, Guatemala, Colombia, Venezuela, Peru, and Spain. Additionally, she serves on the executive board of various scholarly journals and has served on multiple committees for the promotion of equal rights and the advancement of women. Her research interests include 20th-21st-century Latin American woman writers, US Latina writers, cultural and gender studies, and critical theory.
