John Lewis was recognized at the College of Health and Human Services' 30th annual awardsrecognition, held virtuallyon May 7, 2020. Please join us in congratulating Lewis as the recipient of the 2019-20 Outstanding Academic Advisement Award.
Lewis iscurrently the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice's academic adviser,in addition to more than five years in the role intermittently, advising 700-1,000 students during each of those academic year appointments.
His advising philosophy includes treating our students with respect and creating informed adults with choices. In addition, Lewis believes "the best positive publicity a department can generate is happy students going homeover the summer or winter breaks, bragging about their program and adviser."
In addition to departmental academic adviser, Lewishas served in many capacities across campus, some of which include: chairpersonof the APSCUF Meet and Discuss; co-director of the IUP INSPIRE initiative; interim director and volunteer of the Criminal Justice Training Center; assistant chairperson, University-WideUG Curriculum Committee; co-chair and University Fellow for the John P. Murtha Institute for Homeland Security.
