The Office of International Education advises all IUP faculty and staff traveling abroad on university business to follow these steps:

Obtain Valid Travel Documents

  • US passport or home country passport
  • Visa, if required
  • Register for the US Department of State's Smart Travel Enrollment Program (STEP)
We strongly recommend that everyone going overseas enroll in STEP. It's free and easy to use. Travelers supply their information (flights, hotels/accommodations, and contact information), and, in turn, they will be notified by email blast, phone, or text message of any issues (natural or man-made) that may arise. In the worst cases, STEP arranges for evacuation from the affected country (costs are borne by the individual, not the government).

Required IUP Export Control

Export controls are federal laws and regulations that restrict the flow of certain materials, devices, and technical information related to such materials and devices outside the United States. The federal regulations most applicable to university activities, export control forms, and other international travel information related to export controls can be found on the IUP Travel Services and IUP Export Control subpages.
