Fauna: Figuring + Fathoming
October 04, 2012
Free Admission
Curated by Carnegie Mellon professor of art Susanne Slavick, the title for this exhibit usually conjures bucolic and benign images. The artists in this exhibition have other ideas, veering from the pathetic to the provocative to the playful.
Anthropomorphized or annihilated, the life forms in these images bear witness to the heights and depths of human experience. Depicting species of the sea, land, and air, these artists play with allusion, illusion, and elusion—inviting us to figure and fathom our own condition.
Artists in this exhibit include Patricia Bellan-Gillen, Josh Bienko, Andrew Johnson, and Susanne Slavick.
The Kipp Gallery is located in Sprowls Hall. Weekly gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday from noon to 4:00 p.m.
An Artist Talk and reception will be held on Thursday, October 4, at 5:00 p.m.
