Ellen J. Anderson, Ph.D., PCC-S
As one of the last remaining taboo topics in our culture, suicide is not easily discussed. Little money is set aside for research and training about why it happens and what causes suicidal thinking. This session is geared to breaking through the taboo nature of the subject, allowing people to learn how suicidal thinking is linked with clinical depression, and to understand how suicidal people can be helped to recover from this devastating illness. We will be discussing how brain damage creates skewed thinking in suicidal people, the role of therapy and medication in treating suicidal people, and how stigma reduction and education about clinical depression can increase the likelihood of recovery.
