The Mathematical and Computer Sciences Department has three main computer labs in Stright Hall.
Computer Labs
Stright 220
The department schedules classes in the computerized classroom during the day and most evenings. It is not available for individual student use; students should use the lab in Stright 112B.
The computerized classroom has 31 PCs running Windows. The software in the computerized classroom includes Geometer's Sketchpad, Matlab, Mathematica, Microsoft Office, Scientific Notebook, R, Sage, and SPSS. The classroom also has a SMART Board and a SMART Podium.
Stright 112B
As you face Stright 112 from the hallway, the department's other computer classroom, Stright 112A, is on the right and the lab is on the left. Each has its own entrance.
The computer lab has twenty-four PCs running Windows and all the standard software that is in IUP computer labs.
Lab Hours
During Fall and Spring semesters the lab is open.
- Monday through Thursday, 10:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m.
- Friday, 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
Lounge
Stright 201
All students and faculty members are welcome to use the lounge to study, relax, or meet with fellow students and faculty members. The lounge is furnished with chairs, tables, two computers, a SMART Board, a refrigerator, a microwave oven, and a television. It is open on weekdays during the day and evenings.
Academic Labs
Secondary Mathematics Laboratory, Stright 211
This curriculum library is designed to help present and future teachers with designing lessons that teach mathematics effectively to students in grades 7-12.
The lab has textbooks from the 1960s to the present. It also has many manipulatives that students, teachers, and faculty members can use for enhancing their lessons. There is also a portable SMART Board that students and faculty can use for practice or preparation.
Most of the books and materials can be checked out. However, the most recent texts are used daily by students, so those texts are required to stay in the lab. If you would like any additional information about the lab or would like to use its resources, contact Dr. Brian Sharp.
Curriculum Laboratory for Elementary Mathematics, Stright 302
The Curriculum Laboratory for Elementary Mathematics (usually referred to as the CLEM Room), in Stright 302, houses children's literature related to mathematics, reference materials for teaching elementary mathematics, some copies of the journal Teaching Children Mathematics, and mathematics texts currently used in elementary and middle schools.
Older reference texts are available as well. Children's literature may be checked out and manipulatives may be borrowed for class presentations for current students. In addition to checking out materials, staff is available for drop-in tutoring in MATH 151, MATH 152, and MATH 153 during posted hours.
