Rachel DeSoto-Jackson, associate professor of Applied Theatre, was invited to lead a virtual master class workshop at the University of Pittsburgh on November 13, 2020.
DeSoto-Jackson's “Let's Talk About It” interactive workshop was presented to 48 students, faculty, and staff at the University of Pittsburgh Department of Theatre Arts and College of Arts and Sciences. The 90-minute workshop explored foundational content in understanding race, diversity, equity, and inclusion through the methodology of Theatre of the Oppressed.
Using these tools, participants generated original scenes of microaggressions experienced in higher education and performed these scenes within a Forum Theatre presentation. Using the Forum Theatre model, participants engage in live role-play within these scenes to engage in dialogue and action for change.
