Zach Collins, professor of tuba and euphonium in the IUP Department of Music, spent the day working with students at Gateway and Greater Latrobe High Schools on Friday, October 1, 2021.
Collins performed a movement of a Bach cello sonata and William Kraft's Encounters II for students in Gateway's Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble. He also spoke with them about making music at the collegiate level as well as his time as a freelance musician in Los Angeles. Later that afternoon, he coached three musicians who have auditions coming up in the next few weeks.
At Greater Latrobe, in addition to performing a short solo recital, he listened to the wind ensemble perform two selections and gave feedback for their upcoming performance.
Faculty in the Department of Music frequently make visits to area schools to give performances and clinics. We invite music educators throughout the region to reach out to have IUP music faculty visit in person or virtually. See a list of our faculty and their specializations.
