The IUP Jazz Band and Jazz Ensemble will present their annual Fall Jazz Concert on Tuesday, November 16. The performance will be held in Fisher Auditorium in the Performing Arts Center on the IUP campus and will begin at 8:00 p.m. Both ensembles are led by Kevin Eisensmith.
The Jazz Band will begin their portion of the concert with Mark Taylor’s arrangement of Duke Ellington’s “It Don’t Mean a Thing if it Ain’t Got That Swing.” Also featured will be Mike Tomaro’s arrangements of “Shiny Stockings” by Frank Foster and Jimmy Van Heusen’s “Darn That Dream.” The Jazz Band will conclude their portion of the concert with Mary Taylor’s arrangement of “Sidewinder,” written by Lee Morgan.
The Jazz Ensemble will begin their portion of the concert with W. Roy Mitchell’s arrangement of “Back Home Again in Indiana.” This arrangement has served as the ensemble’s “theme song” since 1991. Other works to be performed include arrangements of Chick Corea’s “Windows” and “Captain Marvel” and Bob Curnow’s rendition of Pat Metheny’s “Look Ahead.” The concert will end with Alan Baylock’s original composition for big band titled “Torque.”
This concert is free and open to the general public. The performance will also be live streamed on the Department of Music YouTube Channel.
