The 2012 State Employee Combined Appeal (SECA) will run from September 17 to November 2. This is our opportunity to come together and show our commitment to those in need in our community, our region, our state, and our world.

SECA Campaign 400

President Michael Driscoll (center) with IUP SECA coordinator Ray Wygonik and Indiana County United Way director Susan Sapko

With more than 1,400 charitable organizations SECA supports, each one of us can undoubtedly find a charity or cause that is important and meaningful to us.

Many donors choose to use SECA to contribute to the United Way of Indiana County. The United Way supports 16 community agencies, ranging from the Alice Paul House to the Salvation Army. All the funds donated to the United Way of Indiana County stay in the county, and the programs it supports affect one in four individuals in the county. Your contributions, which you can make by payroll deduction through SECA, truly make an impact right here at home.

Once again, the campaign will use minimal printed materials, but pledge forms will be sent to employees electronically and through campus mail. A complete list of participating SECA agencies is available on the SECA web site.

Contributing through payroll deduction is easy and allows a donation to be spread over the entire year. One-time contributions made by check, cash, or credit card are always welcome.

Everyone who makes a pledge will be eligible for weekly prizes.

In support of SECA, I have donated the prize of joining me at a luncheon for three at an Indiana County venue of the winner's choice.

In addition, I'm pleased to have been asked by the IUP SECA committee to be the honorary host for the annual SECA luncheon on October 25 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Oak Room.

I will be making a pledge to SECA, and I hope you will join me in supporting this important outreach effort. I have no doubt that, by working together, this great university community will meet its goal of raising $50,000 and increasing the number of donors.

So, please take the time to consider the opportunities for giving on the SECA web site, and I hope to see you in the Oak Room on October 25.

Imagine the impact we can have here in Indiana County and beyond if every member of the IUP community gives to SECA.
