Students who wish to vote in Election Day on Tuesday, November 6, must be registered. The last day to register is October 9.

"IUP is committed to encouraging our students to be active citizens of the commonwealth and the nation," said President Michael Driscoll. "One of the privileges – and responsibilities – of citizenship is participating in the democratic process: making your voice heard by voting."

Detailed information on many ways college students can register, including through absentee ballot and via many government agencies, may be found at VotesPA.com.

Students can vote in Indiana County only if they register to vote here with their local address.

Starting Monday, October 1, volunteers from the student organizations College Republicans and College Democrats will be at the Oak Grove, the HUB, and other locations between classes and at other times every day to help students who wish to register here.

Students can also register at these locations on or near Philadelphia Street:

  • Indiana County Courthouse, 825 Philadelphia Street: Downstairs, 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., Monday–Friday
  • Democratic Party headquarters, 15 North 7th Street: Third floor, 9:00 a.m.–9:00 p.m. daily
  • Republican Party headquarters, 35 North 8th Street: 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. daily

"Clearly, many students agree on the importance of voting and ensuring that all eligible voters are registered," said President Driscoll. "It's gratifying to see students at events like IUP Day or around campus, working on a volunteer basis to help fellow students register."

Registrations have increased by 1,359 in Indiana County since August 16, and, according to voter registration officials, the great majority of new registrations are from IUP students.

On Election Day, students can use their IUP I-Card as photo ID at the polls. If they have a new card, issued since spring 2011, they're all set. Students who have an older I-Card without an expiration date can go to the I-Card office in the HUB lobby to get a free expiration sticker, and their I-Card will be valid at the polls. UPDATE: As a result of the October 2, 2012, court injunction, no expiration date is needed on I-Card to be used as voting ID. Any I-Card may be used as ID at the polls.

Voting sites are based on street address. Students with campus addresses can watchThe Beak for information on where to vote.

See you at the polls on November 6!
