Mimi Benjamin

Mimi Benjamin, professor in the Student Affairs in Higher Education program, along with co-authors Claire Hamshire (University of Salford, UK) and Alan Soong Swee Kit (formerly of the University of Singapore), published an international study on peer mentoring in Teaching & Learning Inquiry.

Their article, “What is the Role of Trust in Peer Support Schemes for Underrepresented Students?” explored the experiences of peer mentors in the UK, USA, and Singapore, resulting in a conceptual model for considering social connections, shared culture/experiences, and interpersonal trust as contributors to a sense of belonging.

This study was the outcome of Benjamin’s participation in the Elon University Center for Engaged Learning Research Seminar on “(Re)Examining Conditions for Meaningful Learning Experiences.”
