After a rigorous 10-month review process, the Jones White Writing Center has been awarded a prestigious Collegiate Reading and Learning Association International Tutor Training Program Certification. The CRLA certification recognizes that IUP's Writing Center meets high professional standards for hiring tutors, training tutors, and in all aspects of writing center operations.
The Jones White Writing Center has been awarded certification for Levels 1 (Basic) and 2 (Advanced), demonstrating our commitment to ongoing professional development for tutors.
This certification affirms the Jones White Writing Center's commitment to providing high-quality writing support to all students on campus. Our CRLA Certified training program includes:
Working with diverse students (at-risk writers, international writers, undergraduate and graduate writers, writers with disabilities)
Tutoring for retention and student success
Training in a wide variety of writing and rhetorical content (academic genres, writing process, proofreading and editing, organization, scientific and technical communication, research skills, etc.)
Interpersonal communication skills
Referral skills to other units on campus
Supporting the long-term learning and development of writers
The certification is a direct benefit to tutors as it also provides additional credentials for tutors who can add the certification to their resumes, further assisting them as they leave IUP.
