Cofounder of VeraSun Energy
Bill Honnef cofounded VeraSun Energy in 2001. Under his leadership, VeraSun became one of the largest ethanol producers in the United States. In 2006, VeraSun went public on the NYSE with an opening day market cap in excess of $2 billion.
Prior to his affiliation with VeraSun, Honnef was president and cofounder of ExpressGold.com, Inc., an Internet gift certificate company. CyberSource purchased ExpressGold in a stock deal valued at more than $70 million in 2000. Prior to cofounding ExpressGold, Honnef served as sales director for Special Teams. During his tenure, Special Teams was recognized by Inc. Magazine as one of the 500 fastest-growing, privately held companies in the United States. Special Teams was sold to the American Express Company in 1995. Honnef spent five years with Marriott Corporation in the role of systems analyst before joining Special Teams.
Honnef graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor's degree in Information Systems. While a student at IUP, he served as vice president of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He was recognized by the university in 2000 as the Eberly School of Business and Information Technology Entrepreneur of the Year. He currently lives in Camarillo, California, with his wife, Heather, and their three children, Aidan, Tanner, and Molly.
