Executive Chef
JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort and Spa
Bryan completed the Culinary Arts Certificate program and chose the Sea Island Resort for his externship experience. Bryan then went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in hospitality management from IUP.
Bryan is currently employed as an executive chef and oversees the largest resort in Arizona, JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort and Spa. The resort features nine dining outlets, including the renowned restaurants Tia Carmen and Kembara. What he appreciates the most about JW Desert Ridge is the commitment to ongoing transformation and enhancements. Opening new restaurants and concepts has provided him with invaluable learning experiences and has allowed him to grow daily as a chef.
IUP laid the foundation for Bryan’s career by providing a realistic structure where class hours mirrored typical working days. This approach, combined with a diverse range of classes, equipped him with the essential skills that chefs rely on every day.
The culinary and hospitality industry, while demanding and sometimes underappreciated, offers immense rewards for those passionate about food and service. Beyond just preparing meals, food has the unique power to unite people, marking special occasions and creating unforgettable memories. As Bryan notes, being a part of these moments is a true privilege.
For anyone looking to excel in this field, Bryan emphasizes a strong work ethic, curiosity, and a willingness to embrace every learning opportunity. His advice—work hard, ask questions, and absorb all that you can—is a guiding principle that can lead to personal and professional growth in this rewarding industry.
