An I-Card is always required when checking out library materials. Visit Polices and Processes for information about obtaining an I-Card or Community Library Card for use at the IUP Libraries.
Checking Out Library Materials
Once you've found the item you'd like to check out, bring it to the Circulation Desk on the first floor of the Stapleton Library.
- Someone is always available to assist you at the Circulation Desk.
- A worker will ask for your I-Card, then will check out the book(s) or item to your account.
- The worker will let you know when your book is due back, and will place a bookmarker inside the book as a reminder of your due date
Renewing Library Materials
When your checked-out items are nearing their renewal date, the library system will automatically renew the item for you. Once your maximum number of renewals (two for undergraduates, graduates, and community members; three for faculty, staff, and administrators) is reached, you will be required to return the materials.
Automatic renewals are not guaranteed. It is important that you read all email communication from the library. Emails from access-services@iup.edu will contain the most up-to-date information regarding due dates and renewals. These automated email messages supersede the handwritten due date slip received at checkout.
You can see the items you have checked out, their current due date, and their renewal status by Viewing Your Library Account.
Lost I-Card
If your I-Card is lost or stolen, please contact the I-Card Office, and also let us know as soon as possible so we can mark it lost in our system. This will disable the card for any type of use for library services.
