The Jones White Writing Center is excited to announce that 11 of our tutors have completed their Master Tutor Training certification this academic year.
In summer 2020, the Jones White Writing Center's tutor training program was certified through the Collegiate Learning and Reading Association's International Tutor Program, which offers an internationally recognized certification for both tutor and master tutor certification. The Writing Center's training program includes tutor education in a variety of key areas, including working with diverse learners, anti-racism and promoting diversity, tutoring for retention and working with under-prepared students, tutoring a variety of different genres and student levels, tutoring the writing process, referral services, and working with international students and fostering intercultural communication skills.
Our tutors have not only completed the required 20+ hours of training, but have also worked on a variety of projects that contribute to the Writing Center's ongoing mission, including original research on international students and student learning; help sheets and materials to share with students; new workshops for international students, business majors, and STEM writers; and contributions to our new Dissertation and Thesis Boot Camp series.
