IUP offers numerous master's and doctoral degree programs with different application requirements.

The IUP Office of Admissions oversees the admission process for graduate students, but there are additional requirements for international graduate applicants:

View our online brochure.

International students are not admitted for summer terms unless they are applying to a “summer-only program” or they are already IUP students. Several IUP graduate degrees are eligible for an additional 24-month STEM OPT extension.

Official Transcripts

All international students must have their official transcripts from non-US universities reviewed by an external educational credential evaluation organization, such as World Education Services or another member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services foreign educational credential evaluation services. Candidates must submit course-by-course evaluations of their degree(s).

International students must send official transcripts directly to the educational credential evaluation organization for review. IUP cannot forward official transcripts to educational credential evaluation organizations.

  • Degrees from US universities,

Graduate Provisional Program

The Graduate Provisional Program is designed for students who want to study English before starting a degree program at IUP.

Students can receive provisional admission to select graduate programs (see below) at IUP while they study at the American Language intensive English program to meet the university's language proficiency requirement.

Applicants must meet all requirements for admission except proof of English proficiency. Prospective students should first complete the graduate application for their intended program of study and select Yes for the question asking if they wish to be considered for provisional admission.

Students can transition to full graduate admission by submitting a qualifying English exam score by successfully completing the Graduate Bridge Program. To enter the Graduate Bridge Program, students need department approval and a qualifying exam score (TOEFL ITP 500, TOEFL iBT 61, IELTS 5.5, DET 90.) Bridge students can demonstrate English proficiency by maintaining a 3.0 GPA or higher in their ALI classes and in six credits of graduate coursework.

Applicants who receive provisional admission have one year to meet English proficiency requirements for full admission.
