Through the generosity of alumni, friends, and family, as well as grant funded scholarships, the Department of Mathematical and Computer Sciences was able to award over $330,000 in scholarships to deserving students in 2020–1.
Russ Stocker of the Mathematical and Computer Sciences Department will offer a series of two online workshops on using R on October 1 and October 8, 2020, from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m.

Aziegbemi Okisamen, a student in the MS in Applied Mathematics program, saw the publication of his co-authored work “On The Derivation and Implementation of a Fifth-Stage Fourth-Order Runge–Kutta Formula for Solving Initial Value Problems in Ordinary Differential Equations” in International Organization of Scientific Research Journal of Mathematics.
Janet Walker and senior secondary mathematics education major Chloe Wilson authored “Introducing Actuarial Science to High School Students,” which appeared in the summer 2020 issue of Ohio Journal of School Mathematics.
Aziegbemi “Okis” Okisamen, a graduate student in the MS in Applied Mathematics program, is the winner of the Sheetz Internz 2020 Greatest of All Team Internz Award.

The tutoring that normally would have occurred in the library for ALEKS in DVST 083, 093, and MATH 100 and the PAPA, PRAXIS, MATH 151, and 152 tutoring that was held in Stright 302 has now been transitioned to an online format.

The S-COAM program will offer two workshops in February 2020 on the software Mathematica, a modern technical computing system spanning most areas of technical computing—including neural networks, machine learning, image processing, geometry, data science, visualizations, and others.
In November–December 2019, Yong Colen, Department of Mathematical and Computer Sciences, visited Tomsk State University, Russian Federation for a six-week assignment. In addition to providing feedback on its newly formed Tomsk International Science Program, he gave workshops for faculty, staff, and students on the theme “Conceptual Teaching and Learning.”
