Overview: What better way to impress your boss than to show how you can save them money? This presentation will address key steps to reduce your experience modification rating (EMR) through prevention and mitigation of losses. A simplified explanation of the EMR calculation will be used to demonstrate how attendees can use lagging indicators to improve leading indicators in order to impact future EMR calculations. Real-world examples will be used to provide helpful ideas for improving safety culture and fine-tune cost containment efforts.
Joe Sanna provides risk management services for PMA clients, which include construction, healthcare and educational operations in the Northeastern United States. A major responsibility of his job is to provide educational presentations to construction professionals and management personnel, with a focus on incident prevention, cost containment and OSHA compliance. Joe was hired by PMA more than 25 years ago. Joe earned his bachelor of science degree in 1992 and his master of science degree in 1998, both in safety sciences from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He earned his certified safety professional (CSP) designation in 1996, holds the certified playground safety inspector (CPSI) designation, and was an NRCA CERTA authorized torch applied roofing trainer. Joe is also a member of the Central Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) and has been a repeat National ASSP Professional Development Conference and Pennsylvania Development Conference and Pennsylvania Governor's Occupational Health and Safety Conference speaker. He also recently obtained the associate in risk management (ARM) designation.
