Title: The Role of New Technologies in Occupational Safety and Health

Overview:  Luz S. Marin, ScD, CSP, an Associate Professor in the Department of Safety Sciences and Environmental Engineering (SSEE) at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, will host the webinar. This webinar was developed to inform employers of emerging technologies that can be used in the workplace to reduce workers’ exposure to workplace risk factors.  Wearable sensors, exoskeletons, and virtual reality are just a few examples.  Understanding their strengths and limitations, within the context of the work environment is essential to validate their applicability in performing work activities.

Dr. Marin has evaluated the working conditions of construction workers and particularly Hispanic workers. Her studies included evaluation of risk factors leading to the high injury rates among Hispanic workers, the prevalence of hazards on worksites, and safety climate in the construction industry.
