Description: This study uses court-room questionnaires administered to arrested batterers to identify the characteristics of those appearing in the Domestic Violence Court in Pittsburgh, court dockets to determine the disposition of cases, and clinical records from the Domestic Abuse Counseling Center, Pittsburgh (n=200), that show program participation. This information helps assess the compliance of batterers to court-ordered counseling before and after the implementation of a new court review procedure. The new procedure requires batterers to return to court to verify their compliance with the initial court disposition.
Goal: to assess the impact of court review of arrested batterers 3 months and 6 months after court sentence on the men's participation in mandated counseling.
